Note: Isn’t it a testament to the way our politicians see us today – that is sheeple! They think we don’t care if they use their power and money muscle to exclude those who might really lead WITH the people of Texas instead of Leading as dictators.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Media contact: Nelda Carrizales Skevington nelda@medinafortexas.com/210-416-0418

There have been many invitations to participate in debates and forums coming through our office. The public certainly deserves to hear from each of the candidates. Unfortunately, we’re receiving multiple reports that each time we confirm, the governor cancels. It seems that Rick Perry has learned, over the years, that in order to protect his incumbent status he must be in total control of who he is on stage with and holds the media hostage to his demands.

University of Houston students planned a huge Texas gubernatorial forum. Sixteen Republican and non partisan conservative organizations came together to host the event. They rented the theatre and called the media. Production took months. They called Rick Perry’s office to make sure they scheduled it on a day when he could attend. In the end, after months of planning and selling tickets to cover the cost, Perry would not show. The students and other groups had to return ticket money in disappointment.

In early November, the Texas Press Association scheduled a gubernatorial debate in Galveston. “We thought it would be great for the city of Galveston to have the publicity surrounding such an event,” stated Ed Sterling of the Association. The city would have benefited economically and since the devastation of Hurricane Ike they have undergone a tremendous amount of hardship. The invitations were sent and Rick Perry and Kay Bailey were confirmed. Debra Medina was confirmed and two days later we were told the event was canceled as the demands of Rick Perry were not being met. The sponsor had invited all the candidates.

KERA, a public broadcasting station in Dallas, is publicizing that Rick Perry and Kay Bailey will be debating on January 14th. During an interview earlier in the year, they had assured us that Debra would be included as she had already met the criteria of the station. “When I called on November 19th, Shelley Kofler, News Director for KERA let me know that Debra is not invited to debate at this time, even though we meet their criteria,” said Penny Langford Freeman, Medina’s campaign manager. “There are demands by the other candidates, even to where the mic and the seating is placed. So much cost goes into the production that we can’t risk having the two front runner candidates canceling.” Kofler stated.

This is how fat cat incumbents perpetuate their political career: holding the media hostage to their demands thus preventing open and transparent debate by all the candidates.

“I have been a grass roots activist for a long time. I have seen this type of thing go on and voters deserve to know about it. Governor Perry has taken on the attitude of arrogant aristocracy. This sort of behavior is why the public trust in our elected officials is at an all time low and the word “politician” has become synonymous with “cheat and liar,” said challenger Debra Medina.

“We know that it is not against the law for Rick Perry to cancel but the arrogant demands that he be allowed to dictate who else is on stage is a tragic abuse of power that ultimately harms the very public he is sworn to serve,” Medina added.

Why does Rick Perry have so little respect for the voters and the rule of law? Why doesn’t he want to have healthy debate with all of the candidates? “I will tell you why” said Langford Freeman, “Not only is he arrogant. He does not want you to hear what is really going on in this state and he knows that Debra Medina is dedicated to telling the truth.”

The Debra Medina campaign will press on all fronts to insure that the people are given the opportunity to hear from all the candidates. “If Rick Perry wants what is best for Texas, he will stop these aristocratic power plays and show up to debate ALL candidates. Texans deserve to hear that debate,” said Medina.

“We are demanding that he come down off of his royal high horse and talk to the people who pay his salary,” Langford Freeman said.

Many supporters of Debra Medina for Governor of Texas, supported Dr. Ron Paul in the last Presidential Election. We watched helplessly as the media ignored our candidate, even though he received the highest poll ratings, on the networks own polls. The media was willing to discredit the results of their own polls, rather than validate the following and support that Dr. Paul really had.

Dr. Paul was excluded from the Taxpayers Debate, even though he had been voted “The Taxpayers Best Friend” for years. So his supporters held their own event across the hall, and had three time the participants.

Now we hear about planned events for debates and forums for Perry and Hutchison, but when Debra Medina indicates she will attend, the other candidates have to back out for unexpected reasons and such debates are canceled. We hear of other debates being planned, that try to exclude Mrs. Medina all together.

Again supporters are getting frustrated that our candidate and our message of Freedom is not being allowed to be heard. This time supporters of Debra Medina are getting angry. Whatever happened to the “Fairness Doctrine” Free Speech or even civil rights?

Maybe it is time for the campaign to look into serious legal issues. We know that Debra Medina will fight to protect and defend our Constitution once she is elected, but it looks like we may have to start that battle even before the election. Entrenched politicians and their lobbyist supporters do not want to loose their power to someone who will not “play ball” with them and someone that cares more about being accountable to the voters, than to international corporations and Wall Street cronies.

It may look like “deja vue” but this is a new ball game. The ordinary citizens, those who persuaded Debra Medina to take on this challenge to represent their views and their values, those who attend the Tea Parties and the 9-12 events are all saying “enough is enough!” We will not be ignored and pushed around this time!

Last week Empower Texans ran a poll between Rick Perry, Kay Bailey Hutchison and Debra Medina at http://www.empowertexans.com/week-from-filing-for-governor . The results are now posted there. While Debra Medina did not beat Rick Perry at this time, I think it is significant that she has a substantial lead over Hutchison, even with Hutchison being a house hold name, having millions in her campaign fund and running constant ads that “she will not resign her seat in Washington because she wants to fight the Obamacare Bill to protect Texans, even if it hurts her chances in the Governor’s race.” Doesn’t that just tug at your heart strings? Even so, without much name recognition, with limited campaign funds and no support from the media, Debra Medina is leading Hutchison!

With three months to go, I am convinced by March Debra Medina can be leading Perry, or at least come close enough to require a run off election. I think all Debra Medina supporters should be very up beat right now.

Share these poll results with all your friends to let them know, while Debra maybe considered the underdog, by the media, with “We Texans” backing her, we can deliver the win. It is up to us!

I recently heard from people at the TFRW convention. They said that Debra got a great response after completing her opening presentation to the TFRW members. I am pleased that TFRW made this gesture and did not try to ostracise Debra. A remark was made to a Medina volunteer that the TFRW wants to give all candidates a chance to convey their views on the issues. I was encouraged by that since the TFRW is a major driving force (in my opinion) behind the RPT.

The Galveston News reported on the convention and made the article about the fight between Kay and Rick. But they sited the old Rasmussen poll numbers instead of the latest UT poll that showed Debra up to 7+ percent. I hope you will go on the site below and express your displeasure that Debra was not included!

At any rate, I am pleased that it went so well. It was reported that after her speech, tee-shirt sales at the Medina booth were up, up, up!.

Why does Debra have to call on Rick Perry and Greg Abbot to do what they should and can do Constitutionally? Our state has a right to stand up and say we will not implement this oppressive and unconstitutional legislation if passed in the Senate. We should have already seen a press release to this effect from both Perry and Abbot. But hats off to Debra for making this call. Somebody needs to stand up for us and she does and will as Governor Medina. Aren’t you ready to be free again? Vote Debra Medina! jonsie

_______________________

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Media contact: Nelda Carrizales Skevington
nelda@medinafortexas.com/210-416-0418

Debra Medina, a registered nurse and candidate for governor, is taking the lead in defending Texas against the nationalization of healthcare. “This bill devastates freedom and destroys healthcare. Texas must nullify the action by congress and fight for an injunction in the federal courts. I am urging Governor Perry today to call the Texas Legislature into special session. I am encouraging Attorney General Abbot to begin the work necessary to obtain an injunction against the IRS and the 111 other federal agencies empowered in this legislation to further embed Washington D.C. in our lives. These actions are critical to insuring that Texans are free to make our own decisions about healthcare” stated Medina.

As the U.S. Senate takes up HR 3962, the “Affordable Health Care for America Act,” Texans must mobilize now as never before! We must not wait, there can be no delay. We must prepare for the eventuality that the U. S. Senate will pass this bill and be ready to immediately defend the sovereignty of the great state of Texas.

The Texas Legislature must act. Please call your state representative and state senator today. Find your district and their number here: http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/. Ask them to demand that the governor call a special session to address the nationalization of healthcare; to nullify those actions by Congress that undermine the sovereignty of Texas.

With action by our legislature, Texas can solidify arguments for sovereignty in healthcare and against the bill on the grounds that it is unconstitutional. The federal government has no constitutional authority in healthcare. Texas will care for Texans.

Judge Andrew Napolitano said this weekend, “When Congress takes away our freedoms, they will be gone forever. What will you do to prevent this from happening?”

“Please call your state representative and your state senator today. Please join with TEA Parties, 912 Groups and other freedom minded organizations in your area to hold rallies here in Texas to alert all Texans to the need for a special session,” Medina urged. Together We Texans must exhibit the courage necessary to lead the country. We must staunchly defend our sovereignty; we must fight to insure that Texans remain free to make our own decisions about healthcare without mandates from Washington D.C.

I know I am a dummy when it comes to the computer, the Internet and all the modern technologies, so maybe what I am about to share is old hat to everyone visiting this web site. However, I am going to take a chance that there are at least a few people who like myself are trying to get up to speed with all that is going on with the Medina Campaign.

I kept hearing people talk about this article or this event where Debra appeared or was interviewed. I would ask where did they get the information and they would say, “Oh I got a Google Alert.” I would go do a Google Search and couldn’t find anything new. Finally a friend told me there was a difference between a Google Alert (you must sign up for this) and doing a Google Search. When you sign up for Google Alerts, they send you each day all the places Debra name has appeared on the Internet. This is really exciting, She is causing a bit of a stir across the state.

I think this web site is doing a good job of covering news about Debra and we want you to come here frequently and share things that are happening in your area or just what you think about what is going on….but I think you will be really happy to get all the news that the Google Alerts offer.

Debra has more than doubled her numbers since the Rasmussen poll in September. If we continue to do this every month will will be ahead of all of them by the primary.

Our thanks to the Texas Tribune for this article

Perry leads KBH by 12

by Ross Ramsey

Gov. Rick Perry leads U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison by 12 percentage points in the Republican primary for governor, but she does better than him in hypothetical matchups with Democrats in next November’s general election.

In the inaugural University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll, Perry had the support of 42 percent of self-identified Republican primary voters, against Hutchison’s 30 percent. Debra Medina got 7 percent, enough — even if she doesn’t improve her numbers — to act as a spoiler in the March 2 primary.

On the Democratic side, nobody had great numbers. Kinky Friedman leads the pack, with 19 percent, followed by Tom Schieffer, with 10 percent, former Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle, with 5 percent, Mark Thompson, with 3 percent, Felix Alvarado, with 2 percent, and Hank Gilbert, who got 0.3 percent. Earle hasn’t declared, but is looking, and Thompson withdrew from the race after the poll. (The numbers might not add to 100, due to rounding.)

Undecided is currently the runaway favorite in that race, with 55 percent. And “someone else” finished third, at 6 percent. Voters clearly haven’t tuned into the Democrats.

“On the Democratic side, the question is, ‘Is Kinky going to hijack the Democratic primary just on name ID,” said pollster Daron Shaw, a professor of government at UT-Austin.

And in a hypothetical special election race for U.S. Senate — for the seat Hutchison now holds — Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and Houston Mayor Bill White pulled 13 percent, followed closely by former Comptroller John Sharp, with 10 percent. The three are in a virtual tie, all within the poll’s margin of error.

November 2010

Texas Democrats look pretty healthy in general election matchups — unless you name them.

Perry polls in a virtual tie with an unnamed Democrat, getting 34 percent to the Democrat’s 33 percent. Eight percent would vote for a third-party candidate, and the rest haven’t decided.

Hutchison does better, pulling 36 percent to the generic Democrat’s 25 percent.

But the Democrats who actually have their names exposed get beat, at this point, by either of the leading GOP candidates.

Perry v. Schieffer? 36% to 25%.

Hutchison v. Schieffer? 40% to 20%.

Perry v. Friedman? 38% to 23%.

Hutchison v. Friedman? 41% to 21%

In a matchup against Earle, who indicted Hutchison in the early 1990s and saw his case crumble in court, she’s up 42% to 18%.

These Democrats, with their names attached, aren’t much of an obstacle. Their hope is that that particular election is a year away.

“The problem with the Democrats is not that nobody’s looking at them,” said pollster Jim Henson, who runs the Texas Politics Project at UT-Austin and teaches there. “It’s that the candidate’s they’re showing, nobody likes.”

Washington and Austin

Texas voters aren’t well pleased with their elected leaders, particularly with the U.S. Congress: 71 percent said they “somewhat” or “strongly” disapprove of the job Congress is doing, and only 14 percent registered approval. A measly 2 percent approve strongly of the job Congress is doing.

The Texas Legislature fares somewhat better, getting good marks from 31 percent and bad marks from 36 percent. If you’re grading on the curve, that’s not too bad.

President Barack Obama’s performance gets approval from 41 percent of Texans, disapproval from 52 percent.

The locals? Perry’s favorables are lower than his unfavorables, 36 to 44 percent. Hutchison’s numbers are better, at 39 percent favorable and 27 percent unfavorable.

Look at the Washington and Austin numbers through the lens of Congress and the Legislature, though, and you can see why Perry spends so much time tagging Hutchison as a creature of Washington. Austin, in comparison, doesn’t look so bad.

The election that might never come

A slew of candidates have lined up to run for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Hutchison, who said earlier this year that she plans to resign to run for governor. More recently, she has said she’ll stick around for a vote on health care in the Senate — a position that has some pols wondering whether she’ll quit early at all.

The race to succeed her isn’t on the radar outside of the political class — 56 percent of voters don’t have a favorite. Voters who did choose put the top three — Dewhurst, White, and Sharp — in a virtual tie. State Sen. Florence Shapiro and Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams each got three percent; Railroad Commissioner Elizabeth Ames Jones got 2 percent, and former Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams had 1 percent.

The voters

Texas remains a red state, in recent election results and, according to this survey, in the minds of voters. A third said they’ll definitely vote in the GOP primary and another 12 percent said they probably will do so. Just under a quarter — 23 percent — will definitely vote in the Democratic primary and other 7 percent “probably” will. One in 10 said they only vote in general elections and 16 percent didn’t say what they’ll do. Asked another way about their politics, 47 percent identify themselves as conservative, 35 percent as “in the middle”, and 19 percent as liberal.

That shows up, too, in generic races for Congress and the Legislature. On the federal side, a generic Republican beats a generic Democrat 42% to 33%. On the state side, it’s Republican, 39%, and Democrat, 33%.

The Internet survey of 800 registered voters was conducted October 20-27 and has a margin of error of +/- 3.46 percent. The GOP primary questions have a +/- 5.19 percent margin of error; the Democratic primary questions have a margin of error of 6.01 percent.
