A Doubter’s View of Today’s Media
It has been announced that the five major newspapers of Texas, The Austin American Statesman, Dallas Morning News, Ft. Worth Star Telegram, Houston Chronicle and the San Antonio Express News will join together to do a combined survey prior to the March Primary for Texas Governor.
It is interesting that all these papers would join together to do such a survey. It gives the impression that they want “consensus” more than facts. If all the papers agree, then who would dare question their results? This seems similar to the “consensus” opinion on climate change, until the recent release of information on the “climategate” scandal. If you have not heard about this (because most US papers have chosen not to cover the story) just google “climategate.”
Newspapers have used polls recently, indeed to try and create news. By indicating that this or that candidate is ahead, they can often influence how people vote. Many people tend to vote for the candidate they believe will win. Newspapers are suppose to report the facts and issues and let the voters truly decide who should win.
Could this be the reason that newspaper sales and TV ratings are dropping. People are as disgusted with the media as they are with politicians. Until the media returns to giving their readers the facts, instead of trying to influence their opinions, it seems likely this trend will continue.
It appears that by frequently omitting the fact that Debra Medina is a candidate for Governor of Texas that the media is deliberately trying to discredit her campaign in the eyes their readers. This may not be true, but there is a saying “perception is reality!“ However, Debra Medina is the candidate of the Tea Parties, the 9-12 Events and the Freedom Movement. We know this will be a tough battle and we are prepared to fight, and even more, we expect to WIN!
