Yes – Debra can win! Here’s why.

It was 1977 in Texas and government had been run by one party for 105 years.  I think both parties are corrupt by the very nature of their structure anyway, so I’m not just against Democrats.  In fact some of those old Democrats look pretty good compared to the current Republicans and Democrats who are making our laws now.  But in 1977, Republicans were the more Constitutionally minded and did believe and support limited government.  So, then I was a Republican.

Anyway, after 105 years of one dominant party people were ready for a change – but then we had closed primaries in Texas and people felt like they had to vote Democrat if they wanted to have a voice in local government.  As I said, back then a Republican couldn’t be elected dog catcher although Sen John Tower had won a special election to the Senate and Ray Hutchison had been elected to the state legislature.  But they were the exceptions – and big exceptions at that.

Unexpectedly, an upstart rancher named Bill Clements who had never held public office decided he was going to run for governor.   But as usual the “Party” knew best and was supporting a Republican named Ray Hutchison (Kay’s future husband) and did not take kindly to Clements stepping into the race without their “blessing” (good Lord deliver me from Parties!)

Clements decided he didn’t need the party and went full speed ahead with his campaign.  He appealed to Democrats, Republicans and Independents and he won – by 1 and 1/2 votes per precinct!  Amazing.  People were ready for a change and voted for the MAN – not the PARTY. You should have seen the Party officials with “hats in hand” that election night after it became clear he had won.

Two years earlier, Ronald Reagan had came on the scene.  He’d never held public office either and the first time he ran, he didn’t have the support of the Republican Party  but that did not stop him. In the first election he lost but went on to win in 1980.  Again, he appealed to Democrats, Republicans and Independents – and once again people were so ready for a change they put their fears aside and voted their conscience and not along party lines.

Debra Medina is in the same situation this year. A people movement is once again occuring in this  in this state and the mood is largely like it was in 1977 – kick the bums out!  Debra is not supported by the Party (thank God – if she were I would wonder about her) – they would rather go with the party hacks than listen to the people, so what else is new?  BUT – she has the same thing going for her that Clements and Reagan did.  People are sick of the status quo.

Debra is not a political hack – she has never held public office, and while she is running as a Republican, she is a philosophical Constitutionalist.  And she is appealing to Democrats, Republicans and Independents.

So if people will just go with their gut and reject more of the same we can elect Debra Medina.  She knows what she stands for and we know what she stands for – what a breath of fresh air!  I am absolutely confident that Governor Medina will be the same person, with the same principles and convictions that she is now as Debra Medina, the candidate.

So if you have been thinking that you will vote for Kay or Rick – think about this: Are you really going to pick, one more time, from two rotten apples so to speak.  Go with the status quo?  Go with continued erosion of property rights, property takings, and more government looking through your bedroom window?   Won’t you take a stand for yourself, your children, property rights, and individual freedom?

Just vote for the best person – Debra Medina – and she WILL win.  But if you think she doesn’t have a chance and you vote for the “elite” then she will loose and so will you and so will Texas.

If we don’t elect this woman of morals and honor then Texans will to some extent, have lost some of our own honor in the process.
